school with about seventy five scholars. A monthly rent of three dollars is paid by this Bureau for the building occupied by the School.

At Martinsburg there are one day and one night school with one hundred and fifteen pupils and an average attendance last month of sixty. Five dollars per month is paid by this Bureau for rent of the school building. There is one Sabbath School with sixty five scholars.

At Charlestown there are one day and one night school with two teachers, ninety three pupils and an average attendance of Seventy five. Rent of school building five dollars per month is paid by this Bureau. One of the teachers is to be transferred to Stanton Va. This seems to me unfortunate as her place is not to be supplied by another. Some hostility toward the schools has been manifested by the whites of Charlestown, but not enough to interrupt them.
