Dear Sir

I have heard it rumored that the Freedmen's Bureau was to build, (or rather to give ^[[insert]] lumber [[/insert]] to the colored folks and they were to build) a school house in this vicinity. I should hope this was not true, from the fact that the place they say it is to be built is not more than a quarter of a mile from the Furnace and would not be attended by any who could not attend our school and there does not appear to me to be scholars enough to need two schools, as we do not have our school full. It would be folly for us to keep a school for them if one was held right near us and I also think that it would hurt
