Rev John Kimball
Supt Schools for Freedmen

Sir
I am informed that some of the Colored preachers at Annapolis do not encourage as much as they might the education of the children. You will please have a meeting of all the preachers of Colored Churches there and ascertain whether this is true and what reason they have for opposition to the schools. And you will take measures to secure their full co-operation in this great work for the elevation of their race — correcting any evils in the present schools if you find any and explaining the importance of sustaining such instrumentalities as are in operation.
