over to the Commr of the several towns, if such a course is pursued, then we can look for no help from the colored people I find that at these two places (Sheperdstown & Charlestown), that Flooring will cost delivered $45 pr 1000, Rough Lumber $30 pr 1000, Doors $5 each, Sash 11 cts pr light 10 x 16, Window Frames $3, Lath $4½ pr 1000, Shingles, Oak $16 pr 1000, Lime $20 pr 100 bushels, Stone $1 pr perch

Masons receive $3 pr 1000 for laying brick, by contracting with a Carpenter his wages will average $2.50 pr day Painters $3.00 pr day

At Martinsburg I found the Commr's Messers Wysong & Mathews most excellent gentlemen, and interested in the work They showed me a Lot that they had selected which Mr Brackett & myself endorsed. They will make an estimate to day giving cost of material, labor, size &c with plan of building and forward the same to to you at once. The objections mentioned do not apply to this place as I am of the opinion it would be the wisest plan to put the building in their hands when completed
