Rev John Kimball

Dear Sir,

Many thanks for your cordial letter although it contained little to hope for just now. Still the tone of it did us a world of good for we are exceedingly disappointed not to return to the "Friend's Mission." The reasons would be perfectly satisfactory to give but as they are of a personal character are not worth while to mention.

We did not know but we were to return till two weeks before we expected to start consequently, were too late to make other arrangements.

We want to labor for the freed men and much desire to be situated so that we can do so. And late as it is wish to make every effort in our power to secure situations
