Free Library July 2 — 1867.

Rev. John Kimball

Sir.
I have secured the services of a competent Soldier, — Sgt. Jenkins, U S. Marine Corps. — to keep the Library open during this month, as I wish to be absent from the City for the purpose of recruiting my health; having been constantly here for two years without vacation. I intended to get Mrs Bigelow & tried very hard to do so, but she could not, & Sgt Jenkins offered; he is a man of great influence among the Soldiers; was Capt. of Cold. Troops, in the war; is an evangelical christian, & understands the workings of this Library better than any other person in Washington.

I shall return by the 1st of August,

Very truly, [[signature]] Mrs J B Johnson [[/signature]]
