I have the honor to state that a school for colored children is very much needed at this place and would respectfully request that a building be furnished for that purpose.

There is a house here suitable for the purpose that can be rented from now until next Christmas for Seventy five dollars.

But as a school will always be needed here I think it would be better to build a school house. Perhaps there is some old barrack neare Washington the lumber of which could be shiped here and put up. Schooners carying wood from here could be got to bring the lumber back at a reasonable price. The school building from "the farm" was moved to near St. Josephs church ten miles from here in which is kept the only School
