is the day to meet the Board & contractors to make a contract. If an acceptable contract is made, work will be commenced at once.

I was under an absolute necessity of changing the plan of the house, or else of having no house at all. The plan proposed by the Bureau would cost at least two hundred dollars more, which could not possibly be raised. Besides, there was no advantage in that plan which is not secured in present one. By making estimates for the lumber, plastering, &c., it will be seen that a house 75 ft by 22, as proposed by Bureau, would cost more than one 60 ft by 27 ft which covers the same area as the former. Besides, the proportion of the latter house is much better than that of the first. I have carefully considered the plan which has been fixed upon, & hope it will meet the approval of the Bureau. At least, there was a necessity in the case, which seemed to me to overrule every other consideration. I will forward the plan & specifications which I made out for the Board, if you desire. The house to be built is 54 ft. by 26 ft., thus giving two school rooms 27 ft by 26 ft. Adding four feet to the width of your plan affords an additional row of seats, or four instead
