Under these circumstances "the Board of Education of the Township of Romney" have instructed me to communicate with you, & ask if you could not appropriate more than the [[underlined]] 200 [[/underlined]]$ promised, or enough to go on with the building at once. There is no possibility of our getting much more if the taxes collected, & if all were collected, it would add but a trifle more to the colored peoples Buldg-fund, for we have done far better than we anticipated in the way of collecting the taxes due.

The [[underlined]] 200$ [[/underlined]] promised us, would enable us to [[underlined]] commence [[/underlined]] on the Second proposal mentioned, but not to finish the work, or provide the furniture. If you can do no better please send this amot, that I may deposit it with the township Treasurer (Mr. Tobias Bake in Romney) who is also treasurer of this county; or send it directly to him. If you must have, as you proposed, a bill to liquidate, before the money can be paid out, this will compelt us to contract at once, with-

out knowing which plan to adopt, in order to get the builders bill, & [[inserted]] your [[/inserted]] part payment on it: ___ as it is here, the builders expect us (as a Board) to advance the money just as they need it, to pay their hands, bills &c.

The carpenter who proposes to build for us says he can commence [[inserted]] the work [[/inserted]] in two weeks.
