Kendall Green Bk's Nov 6th 1867

Revd. J. Kimball
Supt Schools &c

Sir
Permit me to inquire whether there is no hope of obtaining a teacher for these Bk's during the approaching Winter? The number of scholars in & about my Camp is large & our necessities are great.

I have sought to do what I could by my personal efforts & that of my family in night schools, but the want of books & of lights & fuel is likely to put a stop to even this. I have to-day had my third application for [[underlined]] my office & Schools [[/underlined]] returned [[underlined]] disapproved. [[/underlined]] So there is no use of my asking for [[underlined]] wood [[/underlined]] unless you know of some means through Genl' Howard or otherwise by which I can obtain assistance.

Please see if you can not do something for us? Will you not confer with Genl' C. H. H on this subject. If appropriations can be made for schools & school Houses from funds of the Bureau I do not see why a pittance may not be secured to aid in this volunteer work.

Very Respectfully & truly
Yours &c
