Dear Sir
I hardly know what you expect me to report as to the state and progress of the schools for the promotions of primary education among the colored people, especially the adult population of this city and society, which have been started under my superior tendence, chiefly by my own pupils.

I will keep the Bureau apprised of the facts pertaining to the work. I suppose it is desired that there should be a statement of what is being done for the mental and moral improvement of the freedmen. If so, the work must be allowed to speak for itself just [[underlined]] as it is [/underlined]], neither more nor less. I can not report
