I was much disappointed at not seeing you yesterday, for I wanted to explain to you my [[underlined]] situation. [[/underlined]] I have been waiting all this week to receive my furniture which is on a Schooner somewhere between here & Providence R.I. As soon as it arrives and I get it housed I want to go to Calvert Co. Several parties are waiting to see us to start Schools in the lower part of this County. Gen Howard informs me that you intend going to West Va very soon. I should like ^[[insertion]] you [[/insertion]] to visit here before going on that trip.

The school at this place was set on fire yesterday during my absence. No damage done. I shall investigate and report as soon as possible. Please let me
