Mr. Acheson reported that the Audit and Review Committee met Tuesday morning, November 5, 1985, at the Smithsonian's Museum Support Center in Suitland, Maryland. Mr. Acheson called the meeting to order at 8:00 a.m. Members present were:

Hobbins; Director of the Office of Audits and Investigations Chris Peratino; Director of Facilities Services Tom L. Peyton, Jr.; Director of the Office of Protection Services Robert B. Burke, Jr.; Director of the Museum Support Center Vincent Wilcox; Director of the Conservation Analytical Laboratory Lambertus Van Zelst; Assistant to the Director of the National Museum of Natural History Catherine J. Kerby; Chief of the Safety Division Edward R. Sniechoski; Safety Specialist Nancy Stone; Assistant to Mr. Mineta, Glenn E. Roberts; and Coopers and Lybrand Partner-in-charge A. William Mann.

On invitation from Mr. Acheson, Mr. Burke introduced the first topic of the meeting, Safeguards in Handling Hazardous Materials, and asked Mr. Sniechoski to speak. Referring to the paper distributed in advance of the meeting, Mr. Sniechoski gave a brief overview of the organization, resources, and the internal as well as external responsibilities of the Safety Division.
