Upward Mobility

The Upward Mobility Program is a vehicle used to provide employees with academic, technical and vocational training to enhance their career mobility and to competitively place employees into occupations within viable career fields. Currently one employee is being trained for a professional position, and three employees are in the continuing education part of the program.

Outreach Program

OEO's Outreach Program continues to reach out to minority, women's and disabled person's groups and organizations to increase their awareness of and participation in Smithsonian programs, activities and exhibitions. Outreach Program goals are presently met through exhibitions, outreach messages and association and participation with predominately minority and women colleges, universities and associations. Through these means, the Institution reaches several hundreds of thousands of minorities, women, and disabled persons yearly.

In fiscal year 1985 outreach messages were placed in the following minority and women's publications: Association for the Study of Afro-American Life and History, Federation of Business and Professional Women, United Black Fund, Southern Christian Leadership Conference, and League of Latin American Citizens.
