The measure, which is a companion to Senator Goldwater's S. 1311, was referred to the Committee on House Administration and the Committee on Public Works and Transportation.  Neither committee has yet scheduled action on it.

[[underlined]] National Museum Act [[/underlined]]

S. 582, authorizing additional appropriations for programs under the National Museum Act, was reported by the Senate Committee on Rules and Administration on November fourth.

[[underlined]] Science Facilities [[/underlined]]

H. R. 1483, the measure providing for new construction at the Tropical Research Institute in Panama and at the Whipple Observatory in Arizona, was approved by the House on October 7.  It was reported by the Senate Committee on Rules and Administration on November 19 with an amendment correcting the total amount authorized.

[[underlined]] Hirshhorn Bequest [[/underlined]]

The Hirshhorn bequest began arriving from New York City the week of December 9.  Upon arrival in Washington, the objects are being processed and stored in temporary holding areas in closed galleries on the third floor of the museum.  In accordance with procedures approved by the Board of Regents in September 1985, special collection items will be offered to Smithsonian organizations as transfers, and the staff will prepare lists of duplicate objects (e.g., prints) for the Hirshhorn Board of Trustees to consider for deaccessioning.
