JOE GARLAND
Joe Garland, tenor sax man, is a veteran with the Armstrong Band, having been with Louis for four years. Garland, besides being one of the greatest musicians in the country, is known as a great arranger, having made arrangements for such bands as Artie Shaw, Benny Goodman and other greats.
Garland is also a composer of renown, having written "In the Mood," "Leap Frog" and other numbers known to music and record fans, and he is still studying theory, harmony and arranging. Garland is a perfectionist--never satisfied, and always striving for something better. Thinks Louis Armstrong the greatest trumpeteer in the world--thinks everyone learned from Louis and feels that Louis is his best pal and severest critic.
