Board Walk Talk
(Around Atlantic City)
By
Eleanor Blake
Hi ya "Toots" and "Cookies." Again we broadcast from the world's most largest and and finest ballroom on the great wooden way.
The Y.M.C.A. presented Ella Fitzgerald and her famous orchestra to the host of jitterbugs that welcomed her "Stairway to the Stars" and requested numerous renditions. The young ladies that took part in the parade of Beauty and Charm were guest of honor and hostesses.
The next big affair of interest was the Dance at the Waltz Dream featuring Cab Calloway and his aggregation. The joint did jump and the guys and gals did come on with the "jumpin' jive".
Last but not least was the affair of the Alpha Theta Lambda Chapter of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. A host of visiting and local amusement seekers were entertained with a dance and reception at the Westside Soldiers' Home and monster early yawning cabaret party at the Club Harlem.
The whole town is talking about "Wings Over Jordon" coming to the Convention Hall. I'm sure a large gathering will welcome their melodious voices blended in song.
Just Gossip... Ulysses Johnson seems down-hearted since a lot of the kids have cut to college... Why don't you go too, my dear? Nita Milan is not seen so much now on the West-side. (In town more or less). Mr. Watson, that handsome barber in the 1600 block of Arctic Ave., carries his load like a warrior... Henry should follow suit. "Bunny" and "Newtie" look very cute trucking down Arctic Ave. Albert (Spotlight) Hart is receiving many compliments upon the adornment of the front of his mouthpiece with two gold teeth... We must say, Mr. Hart, your smile is greatly enhanced.
Chirstopher Columbus was down from New York and told me the Crew would soon be swinging at the Savoy on Lenox Avenue. How happy the jitterbugs must be!
Mr. Simmons and Jerry are forever cruising down the Esplanade.
Harold Thomas is doing a lot of chirping these days with different aggregations... More power to you, my friend... We'll see your name in lights yet. Here's hoping!
Among the many students that left our shore for college are... Charles Christian, West Virginia State, where he will enter Freshman class; Miss Helen (Popularity 1939) Curry, Fisk University, Junior; Joseph Allmond, Leroy Usry and Edward Maddox, Lincoln University, entering Freshman class; F. Brathwaite left for Virginia State... Freshman class. Lots of luck to you all.
Bye... now until next issue.
Coleman Hawkins, great tenor saxophonist, is back in the States after a long stay in Europe. The Wm. Morris is building a band that will soon be heard of.

WEST END BAR
For years the West End Bar has been known as one of the popular niteries on the stroll. But since Miss Excia M. Kind, who is tagged as "Miss Exotic" taken over the bar as chief barmaid, things really pop nightly. The boss himself, Charlie Dicrispino admits that Excia tops.

AT THE CARIOCA BAR... Many celebrities are seen bobbing and weaving with the highballs and cocktails shook up by genial Earle Williams and "Skippy" the mix-masters, and if you'll look close you'll find your friends. The Carioca Bar is tagged by popular local columnists as the most popular bar in Mound City.
