Fashion Cues

At Henri Bendel, in the Young-Timers Shop, they've done a very thorough job of assembling a group of extra-special cottons in a 24 hour wardrobe of cool, pretty fashions. These clothes range in type from bareback dresses with jackets right on through to dressier frocks, and there are also some very lovely evening gowns for the big doings in your life.

Starting with the backless models, which can go to town or stay in the country, Bendel points proudly to the black sunback dress with a Guatemalan plaid cotton jacket. The dress has straight shoulder straps topping a fitted bodice, and the skirt flares slightly. This number could be accessorized in the most sophisticated manner to make it an outfit suitable for town dining or informal evening wear.

Another town-minded dress is the one-piece chambray frock, with a saucy little peplum that would make anyone look taller and pounds thinner. Several rows of stitching outline the oval neckline, the shirred peplum and the short, prettily cut sleeves. This dress comes in those lovely pastel colors you see only in chambray - gray, blue, green, pink and, for the gal who wants only black, it comes in black, too. Sizes 10 to 18, price $22.95.

In striped shirting, there's a long sleeved dress that is a cinch to catch the fancy of anyone who would like a change from the very brief-sleeved fashions. The little details which make this dress look much more costly than its price of $22.95, are double rows of buttons marching trimly down the bodice, the narrow bow tie on the collarless neckline and the ruffled cuffs. It comes in pastel colors, striped with white, in sizes 10 to 16.

Less sophisticated, but still perfectly proper for town wear, is the back-baring dress in red and white seersucker. The jacket is white pique, with the edges bound in crisp seersucker. Dress, $14.95, jacket, $8.

A captivating dinner dress, which could also be a wedding gown for a young bride, is made of eyelet embroidered pique. The neckline is a modified oval, rimmed with a ruffle of the pique to frame a pretty face, and the sleeves are bracelet length. The skirt is shirred onto the fitted, torso-enhancing bodice, and has plenty of width for dancing. In misses sizes only, the price, $35.

A really gay little dress is the white broadcloth-finished cotton, with multi-colored confetti dots spattered over it. It's priced at $16.95, and you'll see it in the right hand photograph above.

In the group of junior size dresses you'll see here is a very smart red, green and white plaid frock, cut on simple lines to enhance the shorter figure. Priced at $19.95, this is a dress that can go almost anywhere during the day.

While you're on the Young-Timers floor, do go around and look at the nifty accessories shown specifically to go with these young-in-heart clothes. They're gay, colorful and priced so that there's no strain on the budget.
