Monthly Report of Cases of Ill Treatment Acted on During the Month of October 1865 by Capt JC Barnett Asst Supt F.M.B. Charlotte N.C. Case 1st [[Woman Syban??]] & Benj Ross reported that Mr Irvine [[Medden??]]- did without cause turn them from here without pay- and that Said [[Mellellin??]]- did attempt to stab Benj Ross with a knife. Action On being proven by white witness that the charge of the Woman Sylva & Benj Ross was true- Fined Mr [[Mellin??]] the sum of Ten Dollars ($10,00) and required him to pay said Sylva & Ross for their Summer Labor- Case 2nd Benj Willford reported that Mr McCall did beat him with a chair because he (Milford) asked for a settlement. Action McCall plead Guilty- Was fined $10.00 and cautioned [[underlined]] not [[underlined]] to make use of Chairs in in that manner any more- Case 3d Several servants of Mr J Moore reported that said Moore had repeatedly beaten them without cause Action Found on investigation that the charge was false- reproved the negros & dismissed the Case- [[signature]] John C.
