The sale for payment of labor on the crops, as fixed upon by Col. Whittlesey, to be just to the planters & the freed people, is to give the laborers one fourth of the corn, corn fodder & potatoes. or instead of corn fodder & potatoes give them the same in value of other crops. The Planter in such cases not to furnish clothing. The planter to deduct from each ones share of the crops, the amount of provisions or food furnished for his or her children who do not labor enough to pay for their food. Also to take from each ones share the value of the clothing furnished

In this case of McKearneys, let him divide the one fourth of the crop going to the laborers into 24 shares, then give the six full hands each two shares, & the half hands each one share - For the two hands Jim & Amy who have no father or mother, if the half share of each more than pays for their clothing furnished, let McKearney retain the balance giving each one a statement of its amount or value, to be paid to the guardians when appointed, or appended for their benefit if needed. The laborers are bound to work till Christmas, on such work as required by McKearney - If they leave they will forfeit part of their pay, enough to hire another hand to do their work.
