Mr G. F. Smith being duly sworn testifies as follows.
I live on an adjoining plantation to Doct Holt. a portion of his plantation comes up within three hundred yards of my house. I saw his hands working there during the fall of 1865. They did but poor work, getting to work very late, sometimes they worked very well after getting at it. it would be a tight match for such a gang of hand as that to earn their living in the way I saw them work. I would ^[[insertion]] rather [[/insertion]] have one good hand than five such children as spoken of in Rasa's gang. I know the character of G. W Meyers witness examined in this case, his character is good.
