March 27, 1963

Honorable Wilbur D. Mills
House of Representatives
Washington 25, D.C.

Dear Mr. Mills,

On March 7 I attended the hearings of the Ways and Means Committee on Individual Income Tax Rates and Related Matters. While I did not testify personally, I am in accord with the testimony given by Dr. L. Quincy Mumford, Librarian of the Congress.

I should like to submit, on behalf of the more than four-thousand museums in this country, the attached statement for the Record of the Committee on Ways and Means, in support of the President's 1963 Tax Recommendations with regard to allowing the extra 10% charitable contributions deductions for gifts to museums, historical agencies, and libraries.

We will deeply appreciate any consideration you might give to our interest in this matter.

Yours sincerely,

(signed)
Joseph Allen Patterson
Director
