[[underlined]] Highlights of Occupational Groups [[/underlined]]

Smithsonian Professional and Administrative occupational groups are highlighted since they are most critical to central management of the Institution's purposes and goals. A list of applicable series for Professional and Administrative occupations is found in Figures A-4.1 and A-5.1.

Professional (See Figures A-4 and 4.1)

• The number of White women grew slightly, but percentage representation decreased slightly.

• There was a moderate increase in representation of Black men. Representation of Black women decreased somewhat.

• Representation of Hispanics increased slightly.

• Representation of Asian American men increased slightly. There were no American Indian women.

Administrative (See Figures A-5 and 5.1)

• There was a sharp decrease in the representation of Black men to below the fiscal year 1985 level. Representation of Black women fluctuated upward in fiscal year 1986, but returned to slightly below fiscal year 1985 level.

• Representation of Hispanic men remained relatively stable. There was a slight increase in the representation of Hispanic women.

• Representation of Asian Americans showed moderate increases.

• American Indian men were added to this group in fiscal year 1987. Representation of American Indian women increased substantially.
