Complaints Program

The Equal Opportunity Complaints Program follows instructions issued by the EEOC. Employees and applicants who believe they have been discriminated against may file a complaint on the basis of race, color, national origin, color, religion, age, or handicap.

Physical Accessibility for Disabled Persons

The ODC, in cooperation with the OEO, ensures that required accessibility standards are met in constructing, altering, and modifying Smithsonian facilities. The comprehensive accessibility survey conducted in 1975 is the basis for most of the architectural modifications now underway. The removal of any existing physical barriers is undertaken as a part of the budgetary process.

Disabled Veterans Affirmative Action Program

The Disabled Veterans Affirmative Action Program (DVAAP) is a nondiscrimination program administered and operated in accordance with requirements issued by OPM. DVAAP focuses on:

recruitment methods to attract and employ disabled veterans;
methods to improve internal advancement opportunities for disabled veterans;
program evaluation, and barrier analysis.
