In the register of fishes preserved in alcohol there have been made 2216 entries during the year representing, at least, twice that number of specimens. In nearly all cases the genus and species is determined, although a goodly number of the novelties are still undescribed and the names proposed for them are only manuscript names. Several large collections from New Guinea, Japan and the West Indies were not fully determined but they have received tags and will be made out as soon as time allows:

The small number of ^[[six]]] entries of skeletons or parts of skeletons of fishes has been made in the osteological record.

In all cases, when we had the necessary jars, the determined species were bottled, [[strikethrough]] and [[/strikethrough]] labelled and finally installed.
