U.S. National Museum,
Washington, D.C., July 10, 1882

Prof. Spencer F. Baird,
Director U.S. National Museum,

Sir;

I present, herewith, my report of work done upon the fishes during the month of June, 1882. As usual, the material is arranged under the several headings of:

1. Fishes catalogued,
2. Packages distributed,
3. Drawings completed,
4. Fishes received,
5. Papers received for Proceedings N. M.

Since the record of papers for the Bulletin F.C. has been transferred to the Fish Commission office I have made no mention of the papers here.

Prof. Jordan has been engaged during the last 10 days of the month in work upon the Xantus & Dow collections which will now be bottled and permanently installed in the Museum.

I would respectfully suggest that the cases for wood cuts of fishes long since ordered be hurried up, in order to facilitate the urgent work of arranging and cataloguing the illustrations.

Very respectfully yours,
Tarleton H. Bean,
Curator of Fishes.
