U.S. National Museum,
Oct. 31, 1882.

Prof. Spencer F. Baird,

Director U.S. National Museum.

Sir;

I have the honor to present for your consideration the accompanying report of the operations of the Department of Fishes for the month of October.

Changes made in the distribution of space in the west basement have facilitated the work of administering upon collections gather there and, after a few additional improvements are completed the labor of rearranging will be greatly facilitated. The placing of a platform for fish tanks will rid us of much discomfort from leaky containers.

The bringing together of all fishes in jars for the purpose of identifying, cataloguing and disposing of them finally has begun & will continue as rapidly as possible.

Very respectfully yours,
Tarleton H. Bean,
Curator, Dept. of Fishes.
