Contract for Laborers

This indenture made and entered into this 16th day of September 1865 between Robert Graham of the County of Robeson and State of North Carolina of the one part & the undersigned freed Laborers of the second part, Witnesseth that the said laborer has agreed from this date to the 25th day of December 1865 to do all kinds of labor common to the farmes of the County to work ten hours per day to do his work faithfully & to be respectful in his deportment & he further agrees, that one half of his pay shall be retained by the said Robert Graham till the end of the year, and the amount so retained shall be forfeited by a violation of this contract, and he further agrees that the time lost by idleness or absence without leave shall not be paid for, and the said Robert Graham has agreed that he will furnish the said laborer with comfortable quarters sufficient rations & the amount of money per month which stand affixed his respective name, And encourage the establishment of School for his children

Ten (10) Bushels Corn
Five (5) " [[ditto for Bushels]] Potatoes
One (1) Hog twelve months old
