Contract for Labor
This Indenture Made and Entered Into on the 1st day of January A:D 1866 between D D Hines of the County of Nash and State of North Carolina of the first part and the undersigned freed Labourers of the second part.—

Witnesseth that the said Labourers have agreed to work for the said D D Hines from the said date untill the (31st) day of December 1866 to do all Kinds of Labor common to the farms of the Country to work (10) hours per day to do there work faithfully to loose as little time as possible, to be respectfully In there deportment.. And they agree that one half of there monthly pay Shall be retained by the said D D Hines till the End of the year. And that the amount so retained shall be forfeited by a Violation of this contract.. And they further agree that time Lost by Idleness or absence without Leave shall not be paid for,. And the said D D Hines has agreed to furnish the said Labourers with comfortable quarters sufficent rations and the amount of money [[insertion]] per month [[/insertion]] which stands opposite there respective names to treat them kindly and Encourage the Establishment of Schools for their Children.
