This agreement made this first day of Jan; 1866 between E D Macnair of the first part — and Rufus Tannahill and Joe Macnair, Freedmen, of the 2nd part — showeth — 

That the said E D of the first part hath engaged the said Rufus and Joe to serve him as farm laborers for the year 1866 on the following terms, viz, The said E D agrees to furnish the land for cultivation — comfortable houses for their families and laborers with garden ground for both. To furnish rations for said Rufus and Joe and for there other hands — allowing twelve and a half barrels of corn for meal and one thousand and seventy six pounds of meat for their rations — Three mules or horses and supplies for the same plows carts waggons and utensels necessary for a farm of three plows— The said E D further promises to pay the said Rufus and Joe, one third of the produce made on the farm in 1866 except the garden fat hogs and all kind of stock or fowles raised on the farm and further to pay said Rufus and Joe one hundred and fifty dollars by the end of the year — on condition that they and all the laborers faithfully perform all incidental labor needed on the farm before and after croping season as he the said E D may direct such as ditching clearing and preparing land and improvements generally fencing &c. Said E D further agrees that Joe and Rufus may raise hogs and Poultry at their own expense at their quarters In return the said Joe and Rufus bind themselves to procure three hands besides them selves making five hands for which said E D supplies rations as above stated and if more hands be needed — then the said Joe and Rufus are bound to procure and feed these extra hands at their own expense — said Rufus is to be foreman
