Copy of Contract with Wm B. Carr of Goldsboro and I.A. Brooks & Co

This agreement made this 16th day of Jany 1866. between Wm B. Carr of the one part & Geo. O. Glavis & Isaac A Brooks partner under the style of Brooks & Co of the other part - Witnesseth: that the said parties have agreed to cultivate the farm of the said Carr, situate in Wayne County, in the fork of Neuse & Little Rivers adjoining the lands of Wm T. Dortch & others, on the following terms viz. the said Brooks & Co agree to furnish forty laborers & pay them, and to employ & pay a Supt. of said farm, who shall be a person satisfactory to both parties. It is further agreed that $2000. shall be expended in the purchase of Guano (Peruvian) to be used on said farm, one fourth of which shall be paid by said Brooks, & the balance by the said Carr. It is agreed, that 400 acres shall be cultivated in Cotton & 100 acres in Corn. It is further agreed that said Carr shall furnish seed, rations & quarters for the laborers, [[Mules?]] & feed for them, farming utensils, and every thing else that may be necessary to carry on said farm. It is further agreed that when the crop shall be matured, it shall be gathered by the laborers employed by said Brooks & Co, that the Cotton shall be ginned & packed, the said Brooks & Co. paying for 1/4th of the Bagging & Rope, that when the crop shall be prepared for market - [[underlined]] one fourth [[/underlined]] thereof shall be allotted to the said Brooks & Co, and the other [[underlined]] three fourths [[/underlined]] to said Carr. No portion of said crop shall be removed from the premises before division, and that said Carr shall furnish teams of wagons to transport to Goldsboro', the one fourth that shall be allotted to said Brooks & Co. It is further agreed that said Carr shall designate the land to be cultivated in Cotton & that in Corn. It is further agreed that either party shall have free access to visit the premises, and that said Carr may reside thereon if he chooses.
