20 had come up to say Goodbye. He did not wish me a pleasant trip or anything just said Goodbye, and that's all I said and we shook hands and that was all. I put on my wrap quickly and was gone in a second. The carriage seemed close and stuffy. I leaned back and closed my eyes. When I got home I had lots of things that had to be done before leaving so I sat up and did them. It was two by the time I got to bed. The next morning we sailed. Mr Wilkes himself brought me a bunch of violets to the ship. Ethel Davies and Regi Ronalds sent violets [[end page]] [[start page]] 21 and Mr Sands sent forget me nots. Also the steward handed me a big bunch of violets in a box. On the box was marked in large letters - Wednesday - Mr Sands had told me the night before that he had sent me some flowers from Thorley's without any card, so I supposed those were the ones. [[strikethrough]] I [[/strikethrough]] "I have a box for you every day," the steward, and so it proved. Every day a fresh box of flowers were brought to me. This way they came - violets, white roses, orchids, violets, red roses. They kept wonderfully fresh. But it was a good idea and really thoughtful of him, don't you think so old book? Thoughtful - humph - yes - rather.
