with that began a conversation on this all interesting game. When other people came in we were drifted apart but Mr Barnes came back in a moment and he & Mr Alexander and myself talked for a while. Then Mr A. left and until dinner we talked. He took me to dinner and we talked of [[strikethrough]] of [[/strikethrough]] St. Paul's etc. etc. He told me a little about himself and some interesting anecdotes experiences etc.

I must write though I have no stub pen.

July 5th I dined at the Stokes. Mr Barnes was there and was perfectly splendid. He was oh so nice to me. The next day I lunched at the Barnes. [[line]]
Why have I allowed myself to get in this state. Now I am [[?]] away and - and he is the only man in the world I care anything about.
