I have some things still to be thankful for. To go back to my own affairs -
Monday the 2d came in due time. All day I thought to night he will be at the house, to-night I will be near him, I will hear his voice, will look in his eyes, will sit at the same table with him, will breath the same air that he breaths. Ah me! And so it proved. He accepted the invitation and nothing happened to prevent; so he came. The heavens did not fall or the sea flood the earth, so he came. downstairs, the men of the party were all there. Mama was talking to Frank Polk and Mr Barnes, Mr Cushing & Papa were in "earnest conversation." I shook hands all around & then we sat down, the two young men talking to me, Papa left & Mama & Mr Cushing. A little later Mabel Gerry came in and then we all went in to dinner.
