Tuesday I met Mr Cottenet & we walked together

Wednesday we went to the theatre en family. Mr Cottenet called in the afternoon.

Thursday I rode with Mr Stewart - met him over at the Club - and later Mr Lydig had an appointment to come in. That night din[[strikethrough]]n[[/strikethrough]]ed at Van Rensselaer. Extremely nice.

Friday Opera. Harry went with us & was a hick. The funniest thing happened. Scene At the Opera in Box 31. Mr W. Stewart a brother of Lispenard Stewart comes, he takes seat behind G.V. Mr S. in low voice "Howdy do

Miss Vanderbilt. I don't believe you remember me - I'm Lispenard's brother."

G.V. almost has fit, says "Oh yes indeed I met you at the Bends last year."

"I remember but I did not think you would. 
[[strikethrough]]"But its rec[[/strikethrough]] ^[[But its]] recommendation enough to be be Lispenards brother, is'nt it."

It was said as if to me it were any way.

I agreed readily.

I afterwards thought if any one had overheard the conversation they would certainly have thought Mr S. and I really were engaged.
