Ives Expedition 1857-1858 Colorado Survey "Camp 48-Feb.22" departed Dec 1857 so a Feb date is 1858. travelled north to Fort Yuma which is in California, by March reached mouth of Black Canyon. So in Feb could be in either Calif. or Colorado.
