saw a sedan driven by an Army sergeant while in the back seat a sailor was making very fast time with a Japanese girl. It demonstrated very well the close cooperation between the service. Before we arrived in Hawaii, the houses of prostitution ran wide open. Before each house one would see a line a block long and it was common practice to sell one's place in line. The inner working's of these places ran like this: The girls would work two rooms at a time. When in one room with a "client" the other room would be occupied by another "client" who would undress. After finishing with the first customer, the girl would go into the other room. No time was wasted - talk about high speed assembly lines. The girls made a good deal of money every week and any kind could be had, Japanese, Chinese, Hawaiians, mixed breeds, and American women. Strangely enough, most of them were rather pretty. The price was standardized - I wonder if the O.P.A. had set any ceiling. The situation had become so intolerable that the authorities moved in a closed them up. That was before we got there.
