Our luck has been too good - the law of averages has been vetoed too many times. How long can we last? If a B-29 hits the trailer we're through...If it's going to happen I hope it's quick. Couldn't stand the idea of being mangled by a [[strikethrough]]propler[[/strikethrough]] prop. If it is going to happen, if one of those monsters is going to hit us I hope it is outright and complete...A couple of more afternoons like the day before yesterday and most of us will be gibbering idiots. Either that or just don't give a damn one way or another. GCA crews should be rotated after landing a specified number of planes just as air crews are rotated after a certain number of missions. If nothing happens to us within the next twelve hours we will really be living on borrowed time.

Five PV's tried to land but the weather was so bad that they had to turn around and go back to Tinian. Too bad - our mail was on those planes too. Well, no mail now for the past three days because of the weather.

(I saw Clayton Rockmore's grave down at the 3rd Marine Division's cemetary on the east side on the island. No mistake about it - Captain in the Marines too. I knew him pretty well in high school. I looked through the 5th Marine Division cemetary on the west side of the island. Saw many hand carved headstones cut out of volcanic rock by buddies of the men buried there. Some of the headstones were of very good workmanship, others looked like they were carved out with fingernails. Came across a metal plate lying beside one of the graves which
