(There is a little plot of ground near the 3rd and 4th Marine Division cemetary set aside for those K-9 dogs killed in action.)
In all the cemetaries Stars of David were side by side with crosses -  majors, privates, lieutenant commanders and corporals. Rank doesn't mean anything here. The cemetaries are well kept - scrupulously clean. Many unidentified graves. Every now and then a fresh grave would be dug and another body would be buried. Those being interred now [[strikethrough]] are [[/strikethrough]] were found at the north end of the island)

17 May 
      The bombers started returning from their sencond strike at Nagoya about three a.m. and we were alerted and routed out of bed. False alarm - he was able to return to Saipan. The island was "socked in" tight with a heavy ground fog which made even driving dangerous. Again at five thirty we were awakened - this time I slept with my clothes on- and went down to the unit. Those planes which were able were told to go to their home base but there were others like Happy 41 which had two engines out on one side and couldn't possibly make it back plus about tenothers in the same conditions. About the time they started circling the other crew come on and we went to breakfast. This time, I thought to myself they are going to "sweat it
