Blue (in practice usually just called Blue or Red or Yellow) Since these are the only type of plane likely to be out after dark there would be no confusion with other fighters. When taking off, the pilot of the Black Widow P-61 will,call the tower over the radio:

"Maple tower, this is Maple Green two, am I clear to taxi for take-off, over"

"Green two, this is Maple tower, you're clear to taxi. Give tower a call when ready for take-off, over".

"Roger, Maple tower. Green Two out."

Then there's a pause while the plane taxis to the take-off position, swings around, revs up his engines, checks his magnetoes.

"Maple tower, this is green two ready for take-off, over."

"Green two, this is Maple tower, you're cleared for take-off, over."

"Roger Maple tower, this is green two. [[strikethrough]] Roger [[/strikethrough]] Thank you and out." Or Maple tower will say," Negative green two, This is Maple tower. I have one Charwoman on final. Tower will give you a call when you're cleared to go, over". Green two will roger the message and hold his position. After the Charwoman has landed and cleared the runway Maple Tower will say," Green two, this is Maple tower. You're cleared to go now." Green two will acknowledge the message and take off.
