the generators were off - there was a shortage of gasoline on the island - he was unable to see how it really works. We both agreed that it would make quite a story if Darkie ever has to land his plane. He was here on a navigational mission in which his B-29 was to sheperd the fighters to shoot up some airfields around Tokyo (cf. above.) He didn't know how long he was going to be in the island befor e returning to his home base in the Mariannas. That night I took him back to the transient area where he lived and we made arrangements to meet again the next day if he still here. As soon as i got back I sat down and wrote a letter home about our meeting. It should create quite a little stir among both families.

We got started building a floor for our tent and in the afternoon caught a detail. Worked all day in the sun a developed a terrific headache. The fighters didn't take off that day for their sweep against Japan and I [[strikethrough]] xxxx [[/strikethrough]] wondered if Ed was still on the island. I haven't heard from him so I guess he's gone. Probably won't get to see him again until after the war. The headache was too much for me and I went to bed early. Was dragged out at 3 a.m. to land two Black widows but they landed visually.

Was on duty early in the morning. A B-29 strike had gone out last night and when it returned the field was closed in. In less than half and hour the weather cleared cpmletely and the Dreamboats landed visually at Walnut.

We finished up our floor. It looks pretty good.
