flying the P-51's are not as good instrument pilots as those flying the P-61's. Hence we hoped that by using the Black Widows to sort of lead in the P-51's. We hope it will lead to faster landings of the smaller fighters.
     I received some snide comments on the haircut Kulis gave me after he swore he had experience in this field. However the results of my efforts on his head was of equal quality.

1 June 1945

     Yes someone took a pasting early this morning but this time it was us. Bombing by a bright moon enemy planes came over at 3 a.m. and caught me flat-footed in my tent. The Jap bombers came in at very high altitude and did only some damage. The only thing they hit was an asphalt plant. A string of bombs fell close by the tent while I hugged the floor vowing that next time I'd chance it and run for the nearest foxhole. At least it would be in the open. I don't like that trapped feeling in the tent.

     This afternoon the big bombers with Iwo based fighter escort plastered Osaka. After last night I don't care if they burn every city of theirs right off the map.
