Despite all the promises made to us in the States, I've given up all hope of ever receiving anoher stripe much less aking staff sergeant or tech sergeeant. And civilians wonder why those who come back are bitter.

15 June 1945
The B-29's started passing overhead and on a north course beyond at 6 a.m. and continued passing for three hours. The fighters took off also to serveas [[strikethrough]] escort [[/strikethrough]] escort.  About 11 a.m. the fighters returned. Weather turned them back three hundred miles from target but the big boys continued on in and hit Osaka with fire bombs.

This evening we were presented with the best meal I have ever had in the Army. It consisted of turkey, mashed potatoes, peas, bread, butter, coffee, milk and ice cream. What a noble repast.  However our first reaction was one of suspicion.  Wonder why the sudden change in food.
