relative of Mrs. Levinson's.  The letter had sent him my address and asked him to look me up.  We made a tentative appointment

     A V-mail from Ed said he stopped at Iwo on the 1st day of the month but it was only for an hour and he was unable to get to a phone.  Another letter from David Lowenthal who finally guessed correctly at my where-abouts.

     Base weather informed us that a hurricane was due within 48 hours.  Even now the skies are sullen and it has started to rain.

     The 29's passed over last night but they were obscured bu [[by?]] a low broken undercast.

     I knew the weather had been too good to last.  About 11 o(clock this evening it started to whip up.  We could hear it wind up and then, socko! the squad tent would dance crazily and the rain would whip it into a drum-roll.  I prepared to be dragged out in the middle of the night for a plane calling for a Darkie.  

20 June 1945

     Today is my birthday.  The local plumber promised to bake me a C - ration can garnished with sulfa pilla...No business last night.  Very few B-29's had to land.
