time but the poor guy didn't seem to know where he was going. The P-61 reported just thirty minutes of fuel remaining. He was placed on the tail of the Jap by Agate 7 and the chase went on for about 50 miles. Just as the two aircraft, the nightfighter and the Jap appeared as one on the radar screen, that is just when the nightfighter was close to the Jap raider, Agate, afraid our P-61 would be unable to return to base for lack of fuel, ordered him to return. Everyone called him back but the pilot didn't respond. We all knew damn well the pilot could hear us but didn't want to come back until he got his man. The chase continued for another twenty miles and finally the pilot said he was returning. Over the [[strikethrough]] raid [[/strikethrough]] radio he was chewed out for not returning sooner but the pilot claimed he didn't hear us, claimed his radio was out of order temporarily. Baloney, I said to myself, the Jap got away anyway fleeing north.  

The all-clear was sounded and everyone went back to bed. I think the enemy plane came from either Honshu and Kyushu and had intended to land at either Chichi Jim or Haha Jima but got lost and overshot his destination. Anyway Chichi and Haha will probably catch it tomorrow. 22 June 1945.
