must have really paid off. Although it was clear as a bell last night there were no airborne visitors. 

The fighters and B-29's returned this afternoon and as far as I ould see all the fighters came back. As it is only a few of the old-timers are still around. "Dear Edna" is still here, so is "Margaret IV", "Stinger VII", "San Antonio Rose", and one or two others. According to the law of averages those planes and pilots are just living on borrowed time. Who isn't?

Heard a rumor that the 58th Wing, originally from India, may be permanently based here. That means Eddie will be here. Don't know how true it is but that's what I heard. 

The 21st Bomber Command's letter of commendation for us finally reached Washington and was signed by General Arnold. The 21st wants a GCA unit set up at every field from which it iperates. Eventually there will be three units operating on Iwo, one from each field. A central GCA control will be set to coordinate them. This thing is beginning to develop into amazing proportions. I doubt of the commercial airlines will use it though...too expensive. 

The fighters took off today on a Japan-bound straffing mission. During the take-offs a B-25 parked along the side accidentally discharged on of [[strikethrough]] xxx [[/strikethrough]]
