raced over to the newly constructed enlisted men's club and joined up.  For a dollar.  The privilage of getting cokes and ice cream were well worth it.

The new boys worked Red Patrol this evening - not too god but it's only more practice that they need.

I'm afraid we'll be stuck out here for the duration plus.  The rumor about going to Guam was ill-founded.  It might have gone through if Spence hadn't cracked up but Jolley is unwilling to send out a new crew and an untried officer.

8 July 1945

I am now writing in the recently constructed day room.between supply and the latrine, also newly constructed.  It (the dayroom) boasts two large writing tables, several reclining chairs, electric lights and a radio.  Everything was made from lumber acquired by means both legal and otherwise.  One other item, a wooden box about three feet high, three feelt long and eighteen inches deep with the words "Central Pacific Area - Field Library" and crammed full of books.  Scattered here and there are books, magazines and newspapers all old, some unread.

The new latrine is another improvement too.  Perched on a hill and affording the transient occupants
