11 July 1945

We were quite amazed to hear of all the damage inflicted on Iwo last week by raiding Jap planes.  This was announced by the Japanese of course.  We haven't had an alert for two weeks.

Tomorrow the two shifts of the new team will go on regular duty. With three shifts of our team (another was created when Bob Milne arrived from Hawaii and included R.J.Walker and George Julius) there will be a total of five shifts on our unit. It figures out to six hours on duty and twenty four hours off. That's the schedule the rest of AACS had been following. Now we'll be available for details in the squadron area.

12 July 1945

We started the new five shift schedule today. With four tricks per day, once every four days a shift gets a day off. We also became available for extra details the the area.

We decided to form a GCA baseball team practicing near the runway. Each time a plane landed or took off we had to suspend activity. After two or three hours in the sun I developed a violent headache and had to quit. Until I came to Iwo sun had never bothered me. But
