this is the third time this has happened.

Went down to the E.M. Club tonight and sweated out a line for ice cream and coke.  Since only one purchase at a time was permitted the usual practice was to get your ice cream and coke and go right back to the end of the line.

Later tonight O'Brien awakened me. Weather had detected a violent storm moving toward the island and we were alerted. As long as we are on the island we will handle any tactical operations - the new team has not been cleared by 7th Fighter Command for the job. We slept beside the unit all night - no storm. Weather had informed us it had moved to the west.

13 July 1945

This evening I started an eating session in tent 5. I promised them I'd give them some cake for some food. Alan produced a can of sardines and I managed to wheedle a bottle of coke from him. J.R. gave up a box of crackers. After I had eaten they asked about the cake. I promised them they would get it as soon as it arrived. (I had better request it in my next letter home).
