listening to the radio when the program was interrupted. It was San Francisco carring the news of the first Japanese offer to surrender. We monitered for additional news but there wasn't very much else. Someone came down from the living area to say that the broadcast was heard up there too and the place was in uproar.

11 August 1945
With peace negotiations going on there waslittle activity today.The entire island was quiet. It was strange noto hear the roar of airplane engines nor to see any planes in bee sky. Everyone seemed to be waiting but the Japs seemed to be stalling. We spent the greater part of the day clustered about the radio but on the alert against a possible enemy trick.

12 August 1945
My tooth began to hurt today and I went to see th dentist. I was informed that I had a beautifully impacted wisdom tooth which would have to come out. In the meantime it had become infected. Before the tooth could be pulled the infection would have to subside.

This afternoon our orders to move out had come through. Team One was ordered to Oahu, Hawaii as soon as possible. i.e. by air. We were getting a large dose of excitement in a short time. Tomorrow we were to get physical exam- and cleared from ICOMI decided to delay the wisdom tooth deal
